My Life is Boring...Now Let Me Force It On You!

Well I've come to the conclusion my life is boring. This is just more of an update post.

The cd is coming together well. I pretty much only have 3, maybe 4, verses left to write. We will be recording soon. Once I do i'll post a song for you guys to hear. I feel like this is the most polished thing I've done. It finally feels like I'm in the process of making music and not just rapping. Fun stuff!

I have a show May 20th at Vaudeville Mews. Michael decided to show me how much he owns my life at photoshop. I had attempted to make a flyer that was terrible. We didn't really like the flyer that the guys on tour had made. So Michael made a badass one in like 20 mins. So last night we went out and put up flyers.

Quick question!
Why is is so damn hard to get pizza by the slice before 10pm in this town. I mean fuckin really? We first tried Fongs at around 9:30 (they start servin at 10). Decided we would try Big Tomato. Get there and the dude was actually a prick. We asked if we could put up a flyer and he said, "Well you can put it up but I can't guarantee it'll make it through the night." Well then. He also seemed pissed that we asked if they had any slices. They don't serve slices until 11pm. We ended up just heading back to Fongs. Good stuff. I really want to try their Crab Ragoon pizza sometime.

Today I'm about an hour away from an 11 hour workday. It's not terrible, but it's starting to get annoying. The new guy should be trained soon though. So hopefully next week my schedule will be back to normal. Although I will miss getting off at at 3:30 on some days.

Lately i'm on a Marv Won kick musically. I'm a fan. I would suggest you check him out. Here's his most recent Grindtime Now Battle. It's Marv Won/Quest McCody vs Soul Khan/Dirtbag Dan. Actually I'm gonna put up the Pre Battle Interview also. Funny stuff.

Here's the interview:

Here's the battle:

I think I'm going to wrap this up. It's been real. I'll let you all know how the show went in my next blog.

Peace,
Ryan

Finally.....

So a couple of years ago Mic L and I released a split EP called "The Rebirth". It was a good cd. His side was amazing. Mine was alright but I rushed a couple of songs and really only 4 of the 6 were good tracks. We did some shows together and really seemed to have a chemistry on stage. Some of my favorite sets are the ones I've done with him.

Fast forward a few years. We start talking about doing an actual cd together. But we both are the type to talk about it until someone takes charge and makes it happen. Aeon Grey made it happen. He finally called us on our bluff and set us in motion to make the cd a reality. I'm glad he did because the songs we've written for this cd are amazing. Some of the best Mic L verses i've heard. Easily some of the best verses I've ever written. The way it maps out, there will be two "sides" the first 5 tracks are produced by Aeon and the last 5 by Mic L. I lack all rhythym and patience to make beats. Luckily two of the best in the city, for whatever reason, are letting me rap on theirs.

But even then I was still nervous. Here we are making some great material, but I couldn't stop thinking about how it was going to be released. I wanted to make physical release better than anything we've put out. I feel at this point we need to be putting out a quality product. Then last night I got a text from Mic L, "luke wants to put the cd out on aplus9. what do you think" I think yet again Aeon is pushing this project foward. And I'm grateful for it. With the support of someone who has done this for awhile and knows the proper channels for effective results, the sky is the limit.

We are still workin on the cd. Still have songs to write. Luckily we already have the concepts. I'm more excited than I've ever been about music. I just hope I can convey that excitement on to you guys. The release is fast approaching. We are having a dual release show July 17th, 2010 with prettygirlhatemachine. They are another local group that you should really be looking into.

So really I just want to say thanks to MicL for making some music with me. Thanks to Aeon for kickin us in the ass to really get this shit started and not just talking about it. I also want to thank Aplus9, for hopefully releasing this cd. This a journey, and i'm loving the trip.

Lyrics To My Version of "Find Your Love"

Just wanted to post some lyrics. Doubt I put the actual recording up.

Big suprise...wakin up alone again
No blanket, still shakin from the coldest wind
I live the single life, not by choice
But everytime I try to mingle it's like I lose my voice
I keep forgetting all the words I meant to say
Thinkin bout the past, all the ones that got away
Wonderin....if I got one to stay
Would my life really be any different today
Tell me...can you see into the future
Change my name to Beck cuz I'm feelin like a loser
Lookin in the mirror I don't like what I see back
How can I expect you love when you see that
No feedback, please rewind the scene back
I don't wanna drink but it feels like I need that
I don't wanna be another mean, drunk d-bag
So I say peace out, pull the trigger clean back

Some Hip Hop Artist You Prolly Don't Know But Should!

I don't claim to be an underground hip hop "head". I like the music I like and that's that. Really anything with a melody I can get into. These are some artist that I am really into at the moment. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Today's installment is purely emcees that I first heard through battles. I am an avid fan of battling, as you will soon learn lol.

NOCANDO

Nocando is an emcee out of Los Angeles. He is part of the legendary Project Blowed. He currently has an album out called Jimmy The Lock. You can find it on Itunes and Amazon. It really is an amazing cd. I first heard Nocando during one of his Scribble Jam battles. He also won Scribble Jam in 2007. Even if you don't enjoy the music I suggest you search is battles on Youtube.
Here is one of his songs of the album, it's called "Two Track Mind" ft. Busdriver

Two Track Mind

CADALACK RON

I really don't know a lot about Ron other that he is awesome. The first time I seen him was in Grindtime Battle. Cadalack Ron has a unique style that I love. He is currently working with his Machina Muerte crew on new music. Here is a song off of the Fresh Coast Non Perishables 2 compilation. It's called "Jailbait"

Jailbait

I hope you enjoyed these songs. I'm going to leave you with one last song. This is probably my favorite song at the moment. It was featured on the Non Perishables Volume 2 cd. Featuring some west coast guys. Intuition, who I really don't know much about but am starting to get into. Ex-I, who is a Fresh Coast battle legend. And of course Nocando. The song is called "All I Got"

All I Got

Have a nice day everyone. Peace.

Why Start A Blog?

I've toyed with the idea of starting a blog for awhile now. I like the feeling of letting my thoughts be known publicly. I have terrible grammar and likewise spelling. But that is what attracts me to blogs. I can let my feelings be known without going to a 4 year college, while a TA tells me I should have used a semi colon. Who cares. As long as you can comprehend what I write, I'm happy.

I will use this blog for many things. I'll be pimping out my own music and the music of other local artist I respect. Also doing reviews for various movies, albums, shows, etc.etc.etc. Sometimes I might even get drunk and just ramble for awhile about really meaningless topics that will hopefully entertain you. Hopefully maybe even score some cool interviews.

So hopefully this blog will bring some joy into your day. Hopefully i'll put you on to some new music/movies/tv shows, you previously ignored. So let this be my first post. Hopefully the first of many. Now you can join me on the journey of Realizing Ryan.
